I am passionate about using my expertise to contribute to this ongoing journey, ensuring that education systems evolve to meet the needs of all learners, particularly those who have been historically marginalized.
Background
My journey into education research was driven by a deep desire to create meaningful change. While teaching, I realized that the policies and decisions made at higher levels often didn't reflect the realities of the classroom. This disconnect motivated me to transition into research and policy, where I believed I could bridge the gap between practice and policy. My experience at the Ontario Ministry of Education, where I led initiatives to collect and use data for evidence-based decision-making, reinforced the importance of using research as a catalyst for educational improvement. Now, as a professor at the University of Texas, I specialize in research use, application, and the development of strategies that help schools and districts make informed decisions that benefit all students.
